Pharmatex 18.9 mg pessaries are a topical contraceptive with spermicidal action (the active substance destroys the sperm sheath). This method significantly reduces the risk of pregnancy, but does not completely eliminate it. The effectiveness depends on the correct use. This method of contraception is recommended for use in women of childbearing potential in the following cases: when the use of oral contraceptives or the intrauterine system (IUD) is contraindicated; women after the birth of a child or medical abortion, during breastfeeding and during the premenopausal period; when protection against pregnancy is episodically needed; women who are taking oral contraceptives and have forgotten or taken a pill late. In addition, Pharmatex should be used during the next cycle; as an adjunct to topical protection against intrauterine IUDs (especially with concomitant use of certain drugs, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
